What the Percentages Mean

When your oil life hits 40%, start thinking about scheduling. At 15%, you should be booking an appointment. At 0%, the system resets and logs that the oil life has been exceeded — which you want to avoid.

Conventional vs. Synthetic

Full synthetic oil — which GM recommends for most current Chevrolet engines — can go significantly longer between changes than conventional oil. Many modern Chevrolets can go 7,500 to 10,000+ miles between oil changes under normal conditions.

Exceptions: Severe Driving Conditions

The Squeal: A Built-In Warning

Most brake pads include a small metal wear indicator tab. When the pad wears down to a certain thickness, that tab contacts the rotor and produces a high-pitched squeal. This is intentional — it's your car telling you pads are getting thin. You typically have some time, but not a lot.

The Grind: Act Immediately
